Part I: Memoirs of Piltover

Chapter IIII: A love not lost and the unexpected rescue!

~

Lux remembered Ezreal staring at her in the Summoners Study, even though she wasn’t technically supposed to be there, one of the Summoners that favored her, decided to invite her to have lunch in the intricately decorated hall.

“He’s waiting for you again…” Kalia whispered with a grin on her face to Lux.
“Shhhh! I’d rather not deal with the current state of things right now… besides we have a match on the fields of justice coming up soon!” Lux hissed, but Ezreal was already walking over, itching the back of his head in embarrassment.

“Hey Lux… do you want to go for a walk? You’ve got some time before your next match time starts don’t you?” Ezreal sounded unsure, but Kalia was up and pushing Lux towards Ezreal without another thought.

“Of course she can!” Kalia cheerfully butted in as Lux gave her a deathly stare. “Go on Lux!”

“Tch…” Lux grumbled and followed Ezreal out into the main hall that lead into further corridors.

“Lux… why have you been avoiding me?” Ezreal got straight to it, something Lux was hoping she could dodge for a while longer.

“Ezreal…” Lux’s voice trailed off as she looked down, she knew that he was going back to piltover soon. Word of him actually looking for life beyond the walls was scary for any champion or Summoner to hear.

“Don’t ‘Ezreal’ me, you won’t talk to me anymore since I decided to back to Piltover!” Ezreal growled angrily, taking Lux by the hand and looking straight into her ocean blue eyes.

“Alright fine, you want to know the truth? Yea! I’m scared to death Ezreal, of losing you, of trying to – “Lux tried to finish but Ezreal finished her sentence for her.

“Imagine what life must be like outside the walls? Lux look at yourself, we’ve been here for so long we’ve forgotten who we were before we even became champions on the fields of justice, can you be absolutely certain that this is what you want to be doing for the rest of your life? That there is no chance of a life beyond these walls?!”  Ezreals voice had risen, but no one was around to hear them.

Tears flickered in Lux’s eyes “We belong here Ezreal! This is our calling, our duty to Runeterra!” Lux cried, breaking her grasp from Ezreal. “If we don’t fulfill this duty, no matter how endless it may be, we won’t have anything to live for once war breaks out and beyond these walls! The institute protects everyone’s way of life!”

“Listen to what you’ve turned into Lux!” Ezreal shook his hand as if he were pointing to something. “They’ve completely made you believe that this way of life is the only sustainable existence out there! You’ve lived all your life inside the boundaries of some system that keeps you safe, and you don’t know what else life has got to offer beyond them!” He shook his head next, and looked at Lux disgusted. “You’re so much more than the lady of luminosity Lux, you’re not some puppet just to be controlled, and you’re a person. I just wish you’d realize it.” And with that Ezreal turned and walked away without another word...

“Ezreal!” But before Lux could stop him, he’d shifted out of the area and was gone…

~ Two days had passed since Ezreal and Lulu had started their journey to the first outpost nearest to them, soon they would cross paths with familiar champions in the Ironspike Mountain Range…

Heat still emitted somewhere around Lux, something was covering her, a darkness had come over her, from where she couldn’t tell. Although there wasn’t no moaning from the cadavers or the stampeding of feet clashing against the dirt, she still tried to look up to confirm this. Her hands pushed weakly against the wall, which strangely was fleshy… what was this?
“Lux…. Luxanna arise!” … That voice… it was rigid yet female… who could it be? Her vision was still a bit blurry while the scaly form took shape.

“Shyvanna!” Lux cried as they flew through the air to land on another tall tree a couple hundred feet away. Shyvanna shifted into her humanoid form, hanging onto the tree whose large branch wobbled with their landing. “Ugh… this is troublesome. Looks like I caught you before those shits got to you too…” She rubbed her temple and looked over the eroded land. “What the hell happened here?” Putting her hands on her hips, she looked over the frail girl who had begun to sob uncontrollably.

“G-G-Garen… ghhkk…” Lux buried her face in her hands, her whole back trembling.
Shyvannas face darkened, she had seen the Carriage attacked… but it’d been two late before the hoard of Zombies had gotten to them. She believed that her best interest lie in saving the younger one who was stationed in the outpost not too far from here. She was amazing that this girl had managed to take out more than half the horde with just one attack, but she wasn’t titled the lady of luminosity for no reason either. If Shyvanna hadn’t shielded her from the split of the initial blast, she would have been caught by the rebound. “Luxanna, I know that he’s gone… but we both know that he can be brought back. Now’s now the time to give up, that hoard of undead is on the move towards Demacia and if we don’t find a way to stop them they’ll break down the gates…”

Lux immediately stopped crying, “Mom… Dad!” Her heart started racing, Shyvanna was right. They still had a chance to turn today’s events around, and not only that… but she couldn’t give up until she saw Ezreal again. She knew that she wanted a life beyond those walls, that’s why she too had left to set out and find Ezreal again. She wanted to tell him sorry a million times and to just be able to throw her arms around his shoulders in a warm embrace. Something was bothering her though “Shyvanna, where were you coming from? How did you know that we were in trouble?”

“Jarvan sent me…” Shyvanna said, putting her hands on her hips and looking down in thought. It was indeed peculiar, Jarvan had returned from the institute of war in a hurry, his thoughts jumbled while Shyvanna tried to calm him, but he wouldn’t have any of it. The next morning he returned, he advanced an elite force, a troop of about a thousand or so beyond the walls of Demacia, towards the land that lie between the two great establishments. None of those troops had returned and this had been days ago, of course he hadn’t gone but had stayed behind making preparations and sending more men to outposts including champions that weren’t being used on the fields of justice within Demacia, which weren’t many. Leona, which Shyvanna knew of, was to the north of Demacia, scouring the coasts for some weird phenomenon that was turning the water around Runeterra a pitch black, from reports of scouts that had also returned on order. Things weren’t looking good, and it made Shyvanna chilled to the bone. The mission he sent Shyvanna on was to aid Garen and Luxanna at the outpost lying east in the swamps… but the events leading up to this had turned out completely unexpected. Shyvanna looked down to the corpses who were amazingly regenerating and writhing out of the ground once more, heading beyond the direction Lux had been running in. They’d be safe for now…

Thump… thumpthumpthumpthumpthump!!! Shyvanna’s heart stopped as an animated corpse propelled itself up the thick trunk which was at least 75 feet from where they were up off the ground. She readied herself as Lux looked down and screamed!

“HA!” Another voice came somewhere down from below, beyond the zombie… It was the prodigal explorer Ezreal, and a familiar annoying yordle named Lulu… What where they doing here? Shyvannna thought as the zombie was obliterated into dust.

“Luxanna!... Lux!” Ezreal waved and shouted at the two, seeing Shyvanna with Lux and her all bloodied up, he bounded off the ground with his gauntlet and glided up the expanse of the tree, Lulu having bounded onto his leg to hang on.

“Wee!!” Lulu squealed in delight as they reached their destination on the thick limb.

“What the hell was that thing, what are you guys doing here?!” Ezreal had so many questions, but Lux could hardly speak. “Lux…?” And suddenly Lux threw herself into Ezreals arms, quietly sobbing against his chest while Lulus ears folded down, Shyvanna holding a stoic expression her face.

“An outbreak of undead have hit the Serpentine River over along the other side of these mountains… how far they’ve gotten I don’t know yet, but Garen and another group of reinforcements were caught… Luxanna barely escaped.” Shyvanna explained, looking out over the many giant pillars of smoke that radiated beyond the mountains she had flew over to save Luxanna. “What are you two doing in this area near the Freljord?”

Ezreal protectively wrapped his arms around her… He’d kill every single one of those hideous things by the time the day was over. “We’re on a mission for Caitlyn, she’d asked us to check the surrounding outposts including the one that Lux was probably at before... Whatever happened, happened. Noxian spies have been spotted to the south of Piltover from our lookouts and strange things have been happening ever since a couple days ago…” Ezreals voice seemed unsteady. “And something’s happened at the institute Shyvanna...”, Shyvannas expression looked grave.

“What are you talking about, what else happened that made you question this?” Shyvannas piercing orange eyes demanded answers.

“A-a summoner named Kalia… traveled here with Lulu, apparently she was the only one that she could get out of the battle safely with her to Piltover using Summoner Arts… She explained that champions from the Shurima and Shadow Isles as well as Noxus had banded together against the institute and somehow were not able to be contained…” Ezreal was sure he could trust Shyvanna, for who couldn’t trust Jarvans wing’gal? He finished relaying the information and some of his suspicions before sitting with Lux, he was relieved to say the least that she was okay, and it had seemed like forever since they had gotten the chance to do this when in reality, it had only been a few weeks…
Looks like I'm really starting to hit it off with the series, I've gotten some great feedback, so I'm gonna put it to good use and continue producing writing that I hope you guys will continue to enjoy. Anyway I didn't want to do another "enter" chapter for Shyvanna because I'm going to make it so they tell a part of where they enter into the story into the coming chapters, this will include for other champions I introduce. :) Who knows though, I may write a few more but that's my main plan for the time being.

As usual, any comments, suggestions or questions are welcome and appriciated!
